MONTE GIBERTO

Cenni di Storia
Fonti storiche attestano abitazioni presenti già in epoca picena e romana.

A little bit of history
Historical sources attest that dwellings were already present during Roman and Picena era. The first document where Monte Giberto appears in date back to 1166, it is preserved in the historical archives of Fermo, along with a certain Arnaldus Montis Giberti. Around the middle of the 12th century, became the property of Sir Gilbert. In the 13th and 14th Centuries, the most ancient Castles of Casale and Podio lost their autonomy and were absorbed by the new emergent Castel of Monte Giberto. In the 14th Century, Monte Giberto was reported as a citadel dependent on Fermo. Actually, since 1356 Monte Giberto turned out to be Fermo’s citadel. It was ruled by the municipal authority who used to be in office for six months, it had its own castle governor. Between the 15th and 16th Centuries came in succession even bloody events with Ponzano and Grottazzolina, mostly aimed at defining boundaries. In 1473 became part of the castles in Fermo and provided military aid to the army for the defence of San Seplocro and Città di Castello. Local events are then tied to the chance of Fermo.
